Turkey Offers Maritime Delimitation Deal to Egypt, Potentially Adding 15,000 Square Kilometers
Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler announced that his country is ready to sign an agreement with Egypt to delimit maritime boundaries between the two countries. He noted that a potential agreement could grant Cairo an additional area estimated at around 15,000 square kilometers within its maritime jurisdiction, compared with the area Egypt could potentially obtain under a similar agreement with Greece.
The proposal comes amid ongoing discussions over maritime delimitation in the Eastern Mediterranean, a strategically important issue concerning the maritime rights and zones of coastal states.
